This series is inspired by the first verdant growth of Spring. All pieces are hand built by Carole Hayne, using a clay that is a mixture of porcelain and stoneware creating pieces that are strong, but with a refined appearance.  They are decorated using a technique called “sprigging,” in which a three-dimensional design is formed in clay and then attached to the body of the piece.  The design elements include leaves, shoots, and reeds, and other tender growths of Spring.  The translucent green glaze used on these pieces accentuates the three-dimensional surface design.    The finish is delicately matte with a satiny feel.
