Making a Foot for the Vase

Six Modern Geometric pieces later?! I’m back to work on writing my blog and wishing I was more gregarious.  I had good intentions.  I would write about my process in making some of my pieces.  But clay does not wait for you to write down what you are doing,

First, I made the square box making sure that after the clay shrinks during the firings all the sides will be the same length and all the corners are square.  Then I cut off one of the vertices about 2.5 inches from the point and invert in back in the hole that is made in the cube.  This makes the vertex into a 3 point foot and lowers the center of gravity a little. Then I cut off the opposite vertex the same amount for the opening to hold the flowers, I have not had any trouble with balancing the cube since I started making the vases this way.
